Coming by car

The club has its own private car park which is free to members and visitors. Entrance to the club is from within the public "River Street Car Park" accessed from Barry Avenue, between "Brown's Brasserie" and a currently empty office building. The public car park has recently reverted to its old pay and display system. The barriers which had been installed under a "park now - pay later" scheme, have been removed.

The club grounds are on the right, through a double iron gate and down a short slope. There are two parking areas. One, with a gravel surface, is directly ahead (keeping the green on your left). The other is an area of grass to the left beyond the club house (keeping the green on your right).

If you use the public car park, fees will apply!

Departing the Club

As you pass through our gates, turn RIGHT and follow the route to the main exit. This puts you on to River Street.

As you exit the club, please take care to look for vehicles entering the car park on your left. Also take care when leaving the public car park, as all traffic passing through the town currently comes down River Street (from your right) to meet more traffic coming directly towards you from the east.

Look out for pedestrians/tourists who walk across the exit seemingly without a care!

Coming by coach

Due to the narrow roads and often heavy traffic in the area, direct coach access to the club is not practical. Coach drivers should use the Council operated tourist coach park [details], sited between Alexandra Gardens and the railway viaduct.  The entrance is at the northern end of Alma Road (post code SL4 3HY).

Coach drivers are advised that they should use the approved coach route (blue arrows) from the southern end of Alma road, where it joins the A308. This avoids the need to make very sharp turns from Arthur Road or Clarence Road, where space is limited.

Once set down, visitors can then make their way to the club on foot - just a short walk through the gardens, across Goswell Road (a light controlled crossing), onto a tree lined footpath which leads to a small side gate into the club grounds (red arrows).
